the little local flower patch

love grows here.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SCOUT’S GARDEN IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED UNTIL 2025 WHILE ISSY RELOCATES ALL OF HER FLOWER PATCH TO A NEW HOME.

Scout’s Garden was established in 2017, in a little corner of our 10 acre family property just outside of Beechworth.

Although small in size, the flower patch has a big heart! Each year, our ‘micro’ flower farm produces hundreds of gorgeous annual and perennial flowers including peonies, dahlias, cosmos, zinnias, sweetpeas, amaranthus, Queen Anne’s lace, chocolate lace, snapdragons, hydrangeas….and more!

The extension of our peony patch in 2020 means that by 2024, we will be able to offer a ‘pick your own peonies’ experience. It will be amazing to welcome visitors to Scout’s Garden and see you depart with smiles on your faces and armloads of beautiful peonies!

Scout’s Garden is part of the global ‘slow flower movement’, which means that we choose to grow our flowers as naturally and holistically as possible, working with the seasons and with mother nature. We believe that flowers should be grown, not flown, and that they should also be safe to sniff and hold (and offer a haven for the bees).

Becoming a flower farmer and eco-florist has been an unexpected move for Isla (or Issy as she is most often called). With a PhD in marine ecology and a passion for marine biosecurity, Issy’s move to motherhood and country Victoria called for some serious personal and professional reinvention! Luckily, after discovering her floral creativity and green fingers, she has now found herself exactly where she was meant to be - growing, connecting and creating at Scout’s Garden.

Issy has a rambling, garden-style design aesthetic which is inspired by nature, the seasons, the flower patch and….a dog called Scout.

….inspired by Scout.

Scout’s Garden came into being through the tragic loss of Issy’s four legged soulmate, Scout - a German Shorthair Pointer who lived 7 and a half wonderful years within Issy’s family.

Scout almost lost her life at 2 and a half after being hit by a car, and it was through her fight for life and her subsequent lengthy rehabilitation from extensive injuries that an incredible connection formed between the pair.

Scout suffered a sudden and unexpected aneurysm and passed away in Issy’s arms on July 16th, 2016. In finding a way to cope with her grief, Issy decided to create a flower patch in Scout’s memory - a rainbow field of flowers where Scout’s paws once ran.

Scout’s Garden is undoubtedly the little local flower patch where love grows.

And as you journey to your final rest,

take this with you…

I loved you best”
